Sigma SD15 DSLR camera soon to be released

Sigma is preparing to release an update of the existing Sigma SD 14:
“The SD15 will house the same 14-million-pixel Foveon X3 imaging sensor that is employed in Sigma’s current SD14 model (pictured). It will incorporate a new True II image processing engine and 3in LCD monitor.”
More info available here. The camera is expected to be released this summer. Anybody interested?

“Anybody interested?”
Nope.
No doubt about it. That is absolutely the final nail in Sigma’s camera making coffin.
If they still haven’t been able to up this miserable pixel count (14 is a 3X lie) that means only one thing; they can’t figure out how to do it!
Stick a fork in them, they’re done.

14 isn’t a 3x lie. Its about a 1.7x lie.
In other words the linear resolution of of co-sited sensor is about 1.4x that of a bayer sensor.
But yes, still using the same 4.7 MPx foveon (6.6 Mpx Bayer equivalent) sensor means that Foveon sensor development has halted. SD15 is an incremental improvement, but much more would be needed at this stage to rescue the format.
It would make a nice IR camera for $700.
Foveon was a wrong technology in wrong times… perhaps 10 years ago it would be cool but not now…
I wonder why are they going to make SD15 – is there any REASONABLE excuse? Do they earn anything on these cameras? Tons of R&D yet barely anything sold… duh… I don’t get it
It does seem like Sigma is pouring good money after bad.
how on earth does sigma stay afloat, with some lenses that have to be sent en masse back for focus issues, and a camera body lineup that nobody buys? i almost feel bad for them.
Agree that the SD15 is a *yawn* product but at least Sigma is willing to do things diferently. Fovean sensors for one, and the DP1/2 line. Wats a shame is their poor implementation.
No change in sensor, like when fuji went from S3 to the S5 does not bode well in this fast paced digital market.
the camera is relatively good on paper, but handling and real world use is terrible. and to be honest, whatever cool camera it would be, the fact you are stuck with sigma lenses is a deal killer
