So the biggest mystery left is the price of the a850? I guess “affordable” full frame isn’t gonna happen this year is it :(

in an earlier post, it definitely said below 2000 euros ;-) is that affordable enough?

Having read a few Sony dSLR reviews, what this means to me is the Nikon D4 is that much closer.

    • Posted August 25, 2009 at 1:06 pm | Permalink

but the Nikon D400 might be – with a tweaked (I mean better) Exmor R type of sensor for low light shooting…

I’m not sure I understand your point; but, reading what I wrote, I’m not sure I understand my point.

I expect we’ll see one or more of these sensors in Nikon products – likely the D3 and D300s successors. Although I think I could make the Sony lens line work for me, having read some of the reviews of the Sony bodies, I’ll be content to wait it out for Nikon’s offerings.

yup, but I bet we will only see that happen for another 2 years perhaps?

Seems like Sony is a bit protective of their camcorder market. Where’s the video?

that’s not it. The problem is the current implementation of Sony live view is causing the problem.

There’s no problem with LV – A500 shows that Sony can make DSLR with LV like in Caikon without a problem :)

The thing is that sony wants to make GOOD video, not crap like in Caikon who just recently learn that something else than MotionJPEG exists, lol

I agree, whenever there will be a video DSLR form Sony, it will be a killer. And my bet is that they have it straight before C/N.

The A550 sounds nice, IM JUST WORRIED ABOUT HOW THE BODY DESIGN IS GOING TO BE ! I do not want it to be ugly like the A900′s is,….. EW…. If the body designs were real as pictures in the blog the admin posted about 2 days ago, IM GETTING A D90 !

The new 500/4 sounds good, just wonder what’s gonna be the price of it, apart from that it’s one more point for sony, and one less thing to keep me with Nikon.

Sigma 500 f/4.5 is $6400 so Sony will be more expensive, but about this price-level.

Sony’s gonna be sunk without video features. Lots of my people making their purchasing decision based on video implementation – going with Canon and their next release of the 7D/1D.

Whether I’m a “pure” photographer or poser is irrelevent. Most amateurs I know and a lot of pro press photographers want the ability to shoot good video. Amateurs, especially for Sony, is where they make their money. Canon and Nikon aren’t stupidly putting video into their cameras for no reason.

Just received email from Japan Map Camera that A900 dropped price to 219,800 yen. So A850 is expected much cheaper… 2000 euro is just TOO EXPENSIVE

Agreed… as far as A500 seems to be very decent upgrade – we don’t get much of new things lately. Only downgrades… A230/A330/A380, now A850… duh…. that’s sad.

But let’s look on the brighter side – we got A900 – what was AMAZING and now we are going to have first DSLR with back-lighted sensor, uber-high iso and most likely very good picture quality at high iso’s (I guess that up to 3200 it’ll be fully usable – and that’s already far more than I need 99,999% of my time).
