sigma 17 70 lens Some Sigma rumors new 17 70mm lens next week

The current 17-70 model

Those are the latest Sigma rumors: next week Sigma will announce a new 17-70mm lens with OS (optical stabilizer). The current model sells for around $369, expect the new model to be more expensive.

Next year Sigma is expected to announce a new 70-200mm lens (also with OS) with very high quality glass (probably f/2.8).

The last lens from Sigma was the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS (announced on September 4th, 2009).

Well, the old version is gone from Sigma’s german webpage (www.sigma-foto.de), neither the HSM nor the non-HSM lenses are listed. The HSM is still there on the US-site… Anyone wants to dig out some history on come-true rumors from the german Internet?

sorry, I do not have more info – my guess is that the 17-70 will be APS-C

This is a fine lens even without the OS. I suspect it is one of Sigma’s bestsellers. There are tens of thousands of photos on photo-sharing sites taken with this lens.

it’s a great replacement for kit lens in “other-than-Canikon” systems – those with stabilized sensor. I think that’s why they decided to make an OS version – to better compete with biggest systems lenses.
