Canon still wondering about mirrorless cameras

"Canon Camera Business Unit, Minister Niihori Kenichi, recently got asked about the possibility of Canon to launch mirrorless camera system following the success of micro four third system in Japan market. He said that Canon has no plan yet to develop a new system and still discussing whether this mirrorless system is just a hype / temporary phenomenon or the real thing." (Fengniao via Radiantlite)

Just a reminder what an unnamed Canon officer said for the the Japanese trade journal Pen News Weekly a month ago:

“Canon is proceeding with the development of a mirror-less interchangeable lens camera to compete against models launched by Panasonic, Olympus and Samsung.”

Canon (and Nikon) cannot afford not to take part of the EVIL market share.

They shouldn’t bother competing with m43, they should bring out a mirrorless version of the EOS5 in a M9 size body.

I like this comment. Since I have already seen some crazy guy hack the mirror way for movie only purpose and reserve the function of camera too. So that’s not a problem for Canon to make EVIL. But of course, AF may be a real challenge to her since no similar product from the product line can show how good Canon handling CDAF.

Canon never was very innovative company trying to be the first… I guess that they are waiting to see the sell results from Sony and possibly also check if Nikon makes the move.

that is true, however when they already put so much effort into DSLR video they could as well can try to be innovative here, since without electronic viewfinder is the video feature pretty much useless and only help weird startup companies offering few alu pipes and other weird accessories for thousands of dollars from pockets of poor DSLR video first buyers.
