AmateurPhotographer seems to think that Pentax is working on EVIL camera:
“Pentax engineers are continuing to pursue the possibility of launching a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, as the firm points to an ‘exciting’ few months ahead.”
From AP’s recent interview with Pentax UK product co-ordinator Stephen Sanderson:
“It’s quite clear that we don’t want to be seen as the same as everyone else. We would go down a different route. We are looking to grow. We want to grow. It’s going to be an exciting year. I think everybody will see a change in Pentax.”
Update: there was another interview with a Pentax executive few days ago. The key point:
- Professional Pentax camera (higher than the K-7 model) will be released.
- Refresh of current model(s) is expected this year (2010).

Hopefully it has the looks of that white retro p&s camera they made recently.
Hopefully it will be something existing before December 2015…
won’t be released till 2012 ?? lol
A pro pentax would be awesome, they have an amazing set of prime lenses that are crying out for a pro full frame body. PLEASE BE FULL FRAME PENTAX PLEASE.
As I still have a number of excellent Pentax 35mm format lenses I can sympathize with your view, but for the sake of Pentax themselves I hope they don’t try to compete in FF yet. The chances of sucess would be very slim and could cause them great harm.
PENTAX will definitely release a pocketable large sensor camera. The question is what format?
If pentax chooses 4/3rds, I think 4/3rds will survive and be around for a while.
Otherwise, 24mm (1.5 crop) will be the standard for most EVIL cameras for a long time.
Do you guys think we will ever see a 35mm EVIL?
Yes, but not now, and not from Pentax (maybe Sony or Samsung?)
