I like the big status screen on the top of that alpha… and that’s pretty much the only thing i like.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper and smaller to put a square sensor in the cameras instead if building huge double-handled bricks with more buttons, like this Sony and many other pro DSLRs? You could choose either a square picture or portrait/landscape formats with one button. Jeez…

Come to think of it, the viewfinder/mirror box would have to be larger with a square sensor, but still, that Sony camera looks like a monster. Maybe the square sensor would be best for EVIL cameras of the future. As I said before, the old-school mirror/prism solution has to go, eventually. It’s pricey and fragile, plus the lenses have to be large and expensive, compared to the rangefinder-style configuration.

      Not if it were 24×24….

36×36, bigger box, mirror, sensor, lenses, everything, but 24×24 would work (even 30×30 if you calculate the diagonal of the current lens lineups image circle.).

I like the Sony concept. It adds a new spin to cam design. I would like to see designs for square sensors.

I like the look of the sony and the big hand grip and I like the idea of modules for the Canon. I wish soon there is a modular DSLR , with different grip types, differnt viewfinders, sensors, etc.

Love the look of that Sony prototype, the placement of the on/off switch is a big improvement. Although that vertical grip looks like it needs just a little more work… Other than that, the ergonomics look great!
