New Panasonic camera was presented in Sweden

The Italian website pmstudionews claims that Panasonic had a presentation of a new camera in Sweden (see first video on top; the video is in Italian). The details are similar to what was reported few days ago: point and shoot camera with m4/3 sensor, fixed 3x zoom  Leica lens (starting from 24mm f/2.0 on the wide angle) and some kind of a built-in optical rangefinder with wide and tele markings. A Leica version of the camera will also be available later on (maybe for Photokina).

If anyone attended this Panasonic presentation, I would like to hear more about this new camera (anonymous contact form available here).

If it’s got a viewfinder & m4/3 then it will probably be bigger than the lx3. I can’t imagine they’ll do that since the lx is already pretty large.

sweet but a 1.4 or 1.8 lens would sound much better for nice shallow dof on a 43 sensor

At f/1.4 the DOF would be so shallow that the average user would never get shots in focus. I personally would appreciate the f/2.0 with m4/3 but I’m not sure that that isn’t too fast for the typical user since the LX3 was a much smaller sensor. That all assumes that this is an LX3 replacement and not a higher model though.

On a 43sensor f1.4 gives a dof like f2.8 on fullframe so it’s not that shallow.. And furthermore f1.4 gives you a lot of light so that’s a huge benefit for lowlight situations.

exactly, some people really need to do their homework before bullshitting ! 1.4 on a 43 will just provide “nice” shallow depth of field (depending on the dia blades of course). I love my Mamiya C330 80mm 2.8 for its incredible “unusefull” shallow DOF !!!

i would take one for street photography, so my d700 can take a break from mindless clicking.

What causes the mindless clicking on your D700?

Nothing has been presented in Sweden. None of the major sites report anything, none of the more important bloggers have heard anything either.

Who are these “more important bloggers” that you refer to? What makes them more important?

Perhaps it will be a DMC-L2 coming soon and a small sensor LX5 for Photokina? Some Panasonic products on amazon.jp are listed as being compatible for the L2.

Still seems a bit of long-shot for Leica to have a new 4/3rds when they have said no to the idea of a new one. Especially how it would cut into sales of the X1 – but hey, in crazy super-fast changing camera world, anything is possible.
