Only 85% coverage with the optical viewfinder which is a shame; a lot of cameras (DSLRs admittedly) get criticised when they manage only 95%.

85% is similar to the viewfinders on the G12 and P7000/7100. It’s a glorified point and shoot, without the tactile dials from the X100. It would have been a lot better if it had the X100 aperture and shutter speed dials, similar to the old Panasonic LC1/Leica Digilux 2. Oh well, can’t have everything, and Fuji probably won’t have my money as well.

I had Digilux 2. Too big body & lens. May as well been carrying a dslr + prime.
        X10 is just right.

To be expected, being so tiny, and even lens-coupled zooom cranked in there ! :o
A little rectangle slr-mirror (+prism) is nothing special in comparison ;)

The 85% is probably what they wanted to do. This is to make up for parallax error that would cut off peoples heads off (in the picture). This is a very common problem with rangefinder type cameras when used by the uninitiated.

Ohh this is what I’ve been waiting for. I wanted an interchangeable lens camera like Leica but don’t have the $ for that. but this little gem looks impressive. we will see what Nikon has up its sleeve by the end of the next month. But somebody is going to try to get a nice Christmas present this year.

I would buy this even if it didn’t take pictures.

This camera will be wicked for snapping shots when you don’t want to lug your SLR around. I can’t believe it does 200fps. I wonder at what resolution.
I will probably grab one of these, If the lens is decent with those F values it will be super versatile.

    How was the X100 lens?

They even managed to fit a zooming viewfinder in there.. I actually don’t mind it’s only 85% coverage. Just gives me room for crops.

      200fps?

        Posted August 31, 2011 at 6:17 pm | Permalink

Yes high speed movie at lower res, like some more compacts do. Nice feature to play with, but expect very crappy resolution.

Look in the specs under -Photography Functions-

        High Speed Movie (70/120/200 fps)

the canon ixus 220 for example (240fps):

Yeah i know, I’m just surprised how its features like this that gets peoples attention. This coupled with “face detection: yes” and “image stabilizer: lens shift type”, and there will be calls of “camera of the year!” soon.

    SO one question?
What will you see in the OVF when you zoom the lens in and out?
Will the OVF display the frame about to be taken??

    looks nice. tiny sensor. overpriced.

  12. Posted August 31, 2011 at 6:55 pm | Permalink

Ah if only Fuji has not chosen to opt for a 3;2 viewing ratio on a camera that has a native sensor ratio of 4: 3 ( 2/3 sensors has a 4′;3 viewing ratio) ..

    what an odd choice

      Viewing ratio?

      • Posted August 31, 2011 at 7:30 pm | Permalink

meaning that when you look in the OVF it is a 3;2 ratio
and that the LCD is a 3;2 ratio and as far as I know may be the only one
this is rather silly since a 2/3 sensor has a native image ratio of 4/3

Looks like the battery used in the X10 is the NP-50 (also used by the F550EXR ). Will be interesting to see what the IQ of the X10 will be.
