Olympus is teasing again

Techradar received another teaser from Olympus with the text:

"A Portrait! What could be more simple and more complex, more obvious and more profound."

Olympus is probably preparing to release their high end 75mm f/1.8 portrait and 60mm f/2.8 macro lenses:

100mm on APS, which gives same FOV as this 75mm on 43, is way too much. I already find 85mm on APS is pushing it as far as portraits are concerned.

Depends on you. Many people like a 135mm lens for portraits, hence Nikon’s 135mm DC. I also find Nikon’s 180 2.8 makes a great portrait lens, even on a D7000, though of course it means you need to be outdoors – or have quite a lot of room to work.

Many people want a very shallow depth of field and nice bokeh for portraits. It is one of the main reasons why people say they need a larger sensor camera. A 100mm 1.8 will give them the first and most likely the second as well without going full frame.

      • Need less DOF

I think that’s another reason people buy medium format digitals. They certainly wouldn’t be using m43 for that.

It’s pointing to the XZ-2 as well, given that the XZ-1 is holding the other end of the poster.

150mm equivalent field of view for portraits?? A bit much. A fixed 150mm telephoto I can sort of understand. No sale.

With a 1.8 aperture it may also work well with a 2x convertor which would then make a good 300mm equivalent lens.

Baudelaire ? – a rather unusual personality for a company to associate it’s product with – especially considering what he had to say about photography:

A digital camera with a portriat oriented sensor? It does make sense if you think of the original Pen format 18x24mm in portrait.
