what – canon buys a retailer?

Not a complete acquisition I guess, just an investment.

You never know – Jessops might actually be able to pay some of their bills… They owe a former landlord thousands in damages to the property – money which is preventing him leasing the property to anyone else. Such a waste.

Who puts values on these companies!? Monkeys?
    4 billion? Really?:-/

There are a number of different stories about Jessops’ future, but the £10 million Canon investment has been dismissed as “rumour and speculation” – see for example:

If they have given them money you can bet your arse it comes with a boat load of conditions. I know for a fact that in the past Canon have demanded that no other manufacturer can share a cabnet with them for SLR’s – if a store has two cabnets the Nikon/sony/etc have to share whilst canon get their own one. Wonder what they’ll use this incentive for?

Not that I can blame them. It’s business after all.

I guess that the Non Canon makes will be pushed out of Jessops if this deal is real.
The ‘staff’ will be incentivised to sell only Canon and ignore the other makes.

If I were running Pentax, Sony, Nikon etc in the UK, I’d be looking very closely at this move.
I fully expect that their website will be smothered in Canon ads as well.

Poor Jessops, I knew him well.
RIP the last (almost) nationwide independent camera dealer.
LCE will be next I suppose.
