Nine new press releases from Pentax next week!

Pentax Russia posted on Twitter that next week they will have nine different press releases (assuming new product announcements for Photokina). I mentioned some of the rumored Pentax products yesterday, but 9 new products? Maybe those press releases will include also new Ricoh products and other general announcements? Here is the  translation:

"Next week will be so rich on releases (9 pieces) that the Pentaxians will proudly raise their heads. Be careful of information after the weekend :) "

        Harold, Harold, Harold…

Just because Pentax chooses a different path from your corporate sugar daddy doesn’t mean the products won’t be exciting; it simply means you will not be paid to bash their competitors.

Now please do us all a favor and crawl back into your hole.

I can’t imagine Pentax would do both K3 AND K5N as you describe even if there are a lot of us who’d be all over a K5N (or K5 Super). I won’t be surprised if there’s no K300 this time either (though I think it would probably be a good idea). I can imagine a future K300 taking the form of a K01-style mirrorless, though maybe with built-in EVF?

I haven’t seen any new rumors about a new flash though a AF360FGZ successor with a swivel head would be a good idea. An even better idea would be TTL via RF (especially with in-body transmitter), but I’m not holding my breath for that.

I will not be surprised if there’s no new Q body this time around. I think we might see a Q lens or two (hopefully a telezoom and maybe a wide angle prime or zoom or a portrait prime). Frankly any Q release would be somewhat encouraging for the small # of Q fans who might be concerned that the system will be killed off.

I think we might see a lens or two dedicated for K-01-style mirrorless that take advantage of the empty mirror box for shorter backfocus & more compact design.

DA* zoom would be a good thing too, as would the rumored ‘limited zoom’ but these (along with DA tele zoom ~100-400) but these were all roadmapped for 2013.

2012 was supposed to bring us:
      1. DA standard lens – 50/1.8 already available
      2. DA Tele prime – likely the DA 560
      3. DA High Magnification Zoom – I interpret this as a superzoom like 18-270. This would most likely take the form of a refreshed Tamron rebadge or something in the mold of the 18-135, hopefully WR (or a combination of the two).

I don’t know about 645D MkII but I’d rate that as significantly more likely than FF. Will be interesting to see anyone ends up announcing the a compact budget FF body that has been rumored (rumored D600, also possibly Canon or Sony). If a Nikon D600 appears at the $1800 level that may indicate that the cost of producing FF bodies has reached a point where Pentax *might* consider it as it’s a relatively small price stretch above where K5 was introduced.

im surprised what’s a pentax has not yet clawed his way into this comment section to extol the virtues of non-pentax systems

    • Raffwal

I don’t think even he can hate the brand 24/7, but has to sleep sometimes.

Isn’t Pentax the company that makes those little mints? Or maybe it’s tic tac’s…? Idk, but its nice to see them going from mints to cameras!

That was Contax; didn’t work out so well for them in the end.

Pentax went the other direction and bought out Altoids so they could use their trademark: “Pentax: The Curiously Strong Camera”

They were really something back in the age of metal everything, and the smallest for their length and aperture, save for Leica. I tried holding my eye up to a Leica a couple times and all I could think was ??????
But even their plastic coated auto focusing stuff from half modern times is embarrassingly sharp and pleasantly unobtrusive and their cameras are so intuitive that even a caveman like me can stick something crazy like a Zenit lens on the thing and have it working in a minute like I had been holding it my whole life.
It seems like the only thing getting in the way of this company at the moment is the pricing structure in relation to how much it costs to buy most of those excellent lenses. I hope the folks from Ricoh don’t strangle the horse that they’re riding on…

I’m very interested in the hot rumour about a K3 with a 24 MP sensor, but I wonder whether any of my lenses are up to the job. Does any company currently produce a lens capable of out-resolving a 24 MP APS-C sensor?
