First image of the Pentax DA 560mm f/5.6 lens

Several images of the upcoming Pentax products leaked on Facebook earlier today. The picture above shows the new Pentax DA 560mm f/5.6 lens which I already mentioned will be slightly different that the previously shown prototype:

I wish Nikon would make this same exact lens. I could live with f5.6, probably.

Any report on the MSRP for this Pentax lens?

    • Camaman

I really hoped that they would go for the pancake design on this one…

      • D0n

apparently you have not read up on this lens. It collapses at two points for transport and when collapsed it is about the size of a canon 50 mm….
        lol!

    • AAron

get old 200/2.8, slap TC2x on it and you get smaller size and better quality
      this is just pentaxy stuff

      • Alex

He he… trolls are jealous :) Is that you, “What’s a Pentax”?

I’d say this will be (is) a high quality, quite expensive telephoto. Why? It has a red strip ;)
Anyway, it’s nice to see a new Pentax long lens; a sign they mean business.

      • El Aura

Yeah, since when is 400 mm f/5.6 the same as 560 mm f/5.6? Or since when is 560 mm f/8 the same as 560 mm f/5.6 (200 mm f/2.8 + 2x TC + 1.4x TC)?

And since when did two stacked TCs get even close to a native lens in optical quality?

      • Pablo Ricasso

Hmm. The Minolta 200 is pretty sharp, but the Canon is a dog, bested even by their drainpipe when fully zoomed. And probably neither would be nearly as sharp or contrasty when used on a 2x. And the focusing would likely be as weak as your argument. And the 560 is a new lens.
But hey, look on the bright side. It’s silly white, so you can pretend you’re shooting your crappy Canon…

        • Warpig

On large lenses, a bright color finish is used for the lens to absorb less light, so it doesn’t heat too much inside, as it may deform the big optics.
I also like the discrete Pentax logo on the hood, unlike the big ones on the F and FA series.

Telephoto lens and macro lens focusing long stroke, requiring the highest precision of focus. Focus wide angle large aperture lens does not require high accuracy!

400mm lens the maximum aperture of F5.6?
500mm lens with a maximum aperture only to F8
But a telephoto lens has more lens blur
Even more Smaller than 85mm f1.4 lens depth of field…….

  • Pentax?

Seems weird to make a lens like this. Serious photographers don’t use Pentax. This looks like a serious lens.

  • Pablo Ricasso

    Sigma killer!!!
I would rather have this than the 500 f4.5 that I was considering. I’m guessing this has the stellar image quality that I would get buying a used Nikon or Canon “fast” telephoto and only the smallest drop in speed. As long as it is priced below any of those options, then I’m in. It’s worth picking up an old compact body just for this one thing.

  • Pablo Ricasso

And the fact that the thing breaks down and tucks away makes it even more enticing…

    Lousy DO killer too!!!

And you get free vr/is/os when you buy the body…

    • Alex

Let’s see if that’s really true, not just something made up at Pentaxforums. Done properly, it would be neat – for such a long lens.

Serious photographers don’t use Pentax? I can’t believe someone said that…
