New slide leaked with Pentax full frame DSLR camera details

I received this new leaked slide (click for larger view) describing some of the main features of the upcoming Pentax full frame DSLR camera:

Just a reminder to all Pentax fans that points to all Pentax related blog posts on this blog. Maybe I will start a new, Pentax dedicated blog one day...

do you have a source you can reveal?

    • no, sorry

      • Zos Xavius

I think these specs are probably accurate ,even if this is a fake slide. No surprises here. Ricehigh just posted a rumor about handheld pixel shift working well on the FF. The idea of using a 645 lens and using SR to move the sensor around to take a larger picture isn’t new. The Pentax crop lenses cover a larger area to allow some room for SR. To have that generate an image on the fly would be something though. This looks interesting.

        • TinusVerdino

I would even want them to make more room for it so it can cover the 6*7 format 😉

  • vamzen

They could make a sibling to it without the IBIS and with less buttons to fit in a body which looks like the LX / KX / K1000 from the film era, with interchangeable focusing screens. What the Nikon DF should have been like. Similar size to the Sony A7II but with an optical viewfinder and mechanical dials like on the Fujifilm X-T1. I know they could do it and I believe it would be a great success, of course I could be wrong here though.

  • WillWeaverRVA

    …”world’s fist?”

    • Cynog

Obviously, it’s going to be a big hit!

  • Jacques Pelletier

So you DO have a “reliable” source but can’t tell about it?
Hoping there is “no Rice” in that recipe !

  • Jacques Pelletier

    Good thinking then !

  • Bo Dez

This looks extremely interesting and exciting. It sounds like the Pentax of the old days.

  • x4rd

    For me it’s fake

  • Jón Ingólfur Hermannsson

love seeing 5 axis IBIS – I think most cameras should have 5 axis IBIS – but I guess this has not been verified

  • Adynaton

Fake. I don’t think that Pentax would use Sigma’s own diagram for the 3-layer tech. See and compare with what’s at the top of the post’s slide….

    • WillWeaverRVA

      Looks fake to me.

      • Maybe just a bad translation?

        • Mistral75

          > Maybe just a bad translation?

          Again!… 🙂

The diagram ‘borrowed’ from Sigma, a bad translation?

The use of an APS-C Pentax camera (prism, hot shoe) in the ‘645 Lens Adapter’ section (adapter which exists since ages, by the way, and not “NEW” nor “Original”) to illustrate the 24×36 camera, a bad translation?

          Come on!…

    • Well, to be honest that does depend on how early a composition this is. For making a draft, which this clearly is, competitors pictures will do fine. Then again, we have nothing to authenticate this picture as genuine neither.

      • Adynaton

See the link. It comes from an official Sigma website (

    • Narretz

The whole image looks pretty shoddy. But maybe it’s for internal use (or for distribution) and some intern was told to put something together with shiny images.

      • Kunzite

No. It can’t be even for internal use.
It’s clearly made by someone on the Internet, who doesn’t know anything about the camera, doesn’t know much about technology either (Foveon vs. Bayer), and can’t make a proper slide if his life depended on it.

        • Narretz

Don’t underestimate big corporations’ potential for creating shoddy presentations.

          • Kunzite

That’s just an excuse to blame them for things which don’t happen in the real life.
Get real; that wasn’t a Ricoh Imaging’s employee doing.

  • RenKokkwell

Ahahaha what happens first? Pentax finally pushing out this turd or me updating my website layout harharhar….

  • BP2012

Most interesting thing to me is the 5axis slide on left side of the image. Prism housing is obviously bigger and has different shape in compare to any existing similar Pentax camera (K7,K5,K5II,K3,K3II). Could be the real thing. Anybody seen that picture earlier?

  • RenKokkwell

    fake and gay

    • I downvoted you. Let me know if you meant “gay” as in “cool”, and I’ll switch it. 🙂

      • Aekn

No, he meant “gay” as in “happy”. It’s not always about you.

        • Ah! Cool. I’ll change it to an upvote. (I’m actually bi, and only occasionally happy.)

          • Stinky Man

J shin you are a repulsive freak. But I am sure your parents are proud. LOL. I bet your the catcher…

          • Stinky Man

Legislated normalcy does not work. You are still a freak..

      • RenKokkwell

Gay is in happy (original meaning) Pls upvote

        • humb

you are fake and gay 😛

  • Skepticboy

    100% fake slide

  • Duncan Dimanche

the specs looks amazing though 🙂 I would have preferred a 20-24mpx but if those are true then it’s exiting

  • Kunzite

    Yep, looks fake.

  • animalsbybarry

Sigma foveon, plus hasselbad pixel shift, plus Sony/olympus 5 axis ibis, plus Sony diffraction reduction technology.
How did pentax get all these competitors to combine thier proprietary technologies into a single pentax camera…??????????

    • Kunzite

Obviously, the camera won’t use a Sigma Foveon sensor (the one who made up this ‘slide’ probably doesn’t know the difference, he’s technically unskilled)
5 axis IBIS is other makers’ marketing terms, I doubt Ricoh Imaging would use that even if they had similar capabilities in the SR. Ricoh Imaging would specify the stops of correction (e.g. 4.5EV in the K-3II), and this is missing on this fake.
Diffraction correction is a Ricoh technology already present in other Pentax DSLRs. But even so, it’s of low importance, it wouldn’t be put in a slide aimed at presenting key points of the new camera.

  • Zos Xavius

A pentax dedicated blog? really? you think there is that much interest? 🙂

    • this was just an idea

      • HD10

Good move Admin to get I think this site has potentials.

        • I had it for years, I just don’t have time to maintain another blog.

      • Boris Sheikman

I also think a Pentax centric rumor’s site is great!

  • johnny

It’s a fake, of course. I can almost assure that the sensor is from SONY. Currently, SONY has no product like Foveon sensor.

  • sickheadache

Why would they use that rather old Sony 36mp? Why not the new 42.2mp? I don’t get it.

    • Jeffry De Meyer

if it is true, probably because the 36 is a more mature product which will have far better yields and thus be cheaper and probably be more reliable.

      • kassim

        the 42mp sensor is expensive.

  • HD10

Regardless of whether the slide is real or not, the features mentioned therein are plausible.

If Pentax can implement pixel-shift multi-shot (PSMS) using its in-body image-stabilization (SR), then using a less-expensive high-performance 36mp sensor makes sense as this would allow Pentax to sell its new camera at a lower price but which would be capable of taking very high resolution images in the 72-90mp range under certain conditions without the owner needing to buy new Otus-caliber lenses (with its consequent size, weight and price penalty).

  • DouglasGottlieb

Wish it was a FF mirrorless. Someone challenge Sony already!

    • Mistral75

Leica is about to do so.

      • DouglasGottlieb

I’m eagerly awaiting the Leica SL announcement on October 20 as well but hold out little hope of it being a competitor to the A7Rii or any Sony camera at 2x the price. To compete, it can justify a premium price but when it sells as a luxury item, it no longer does.
