Really beautiful retro design, although I’m not sure whom it is aimed at with its fixed lens. I thought Leica had that market wrapped up with it’s X1. Now with a line of interchangeable lenses, this could be a show-stopper.

If they price this thing right then I have a feeling the X1 is going to lose it’s spot.

I’m worried about the price. They say it’s for the “professional or keen enthusiast”. I’ve gotta feeling that’s gonna mean it’s pricey. I was hoping it would be in the range of the new Samsung NX100- $599 or less. But they probably know they’ve got a winner on their hands and will jack it up.

There is a film compact, Fujifilm Klasse W 28mm 2.8 thats priced about US$1k. Hopefully the X100 is not more than that.

But the red dot didn’t make it. Fuji did. I’m sure they could make money off these and sell a lot of them for $500 but there are probably enough people out there willing to drop a grand on this thing that that might be closer to the asking price. I’m guessing something like $899. Bummer.

Two words. Wick. Ed. Wicked. What a stunning camera. I would love this as my walk around. After using a FX body, grip, big 2.8 zoom and flash at weddings and such, this would be a nice ‘photographer’s camera’. Every now and again I buy a roll of film and throw it in my dad’s old Miranda EE that he bought in 1974. It humbles me with nostalgia and discipline. I can see this being the digital version of that. Fuji: Bring it!

Agreed as far as design. I used the X1 during Fashion Week here in NYC, and was not at all impressed, I was getting better results with my Sigma DP2. IQ will be the final determining factor for me. One thing I’m wondering is if this is a manual focus friendly unit. I like the hybrid finder (primarily optical with the digital info and framelines super imposed). Will there be a focusing patch like an M or will this be like a Contax G2 – AF?

Here we are waiting for the Nikon D7000 to hit the markets and along comes Fuji to blow everyone out the water!

This Fuji camera has an exposure compensation dial. Everything looks like it is easy to set. No extensive menu burrowing!

This would be the perfect walk around camera. Small, light, versatile, yet powerful (APC sensor).

Lord knows I’m a Leica lover, but for me this was love at first sight… that’s gorgeous!!! (looks like an M3). That seems much better than X1 and I expect a much better price of course. Awesome, truly awesome!!! I have been playing for a couple of hours with an X-1, and the most disappointing, sluggish, useless feature was the contast AF speed. TOO slow for a camera supposedly born for street use, were speed is all. Where did you get the “90% frame coverage” from? Copied from dpreview.com?

If you look at Fujifilm’s video, this clearly doesn’t make sense. The OVF shows more than the frame, like on a Leica rangefinder.

  48. Nathan
    Posted September 20, 2010 at 9:18 am | Permalink

It’s triple sexy, but a wide-angle only camera with only one focal length does nothing for me. Make it a 28-70 effective focal length zoom camera and I’ll buy one. It’s nice, but it needs either an internchangeable lens or it needs a zoom.

You can’t shoot portraits at 35mm EFL. Think about that. This camera cannot do a headshot. It can’t do it. It really needs to at least go to 50mm EFL for normal field of view. If it did that, I’d drop 1500 on it.
