Samsung's Global Download Centre had listing for the unreleased NX20 and NX1 cameras. Those model names are now removed. The Samsung NX1 is expected to be announced in 2012 and will probably be the top of the line NX camera. Few months ago there were rumors about a new prototype camera called R1 with the following specs:
- APS C size sensor
- 24.3 mega pixels
- Interchangeable lenses
- Mirrorless system
- Magnesium alloy body
- Retro Styling (their words) i.e. direct access buttons and dials for controls, similar look to Fuji x100, black and chrome
- 10 fps
- Max shutter speed 1/8000 sec
- Phase autofocus
- Swivel LCD screen (although this didn’t get good feedback)
- Price £616 including kit lens
The Samsung NX20 is expected to be announced at CES 2012. The new camera is rumored to have electronic shutter.
There were even some speculations that Samsung may be working a medium format digital camera.

If Samsung’s NX1 is as good or better than Sony’s NEX-7 then I may get an NX1. The mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras are getting more interesting by the month.
When a FF reasonably priced digital camera in a retro-styled body comes out I’ll get excited.
You’re in for a long wait.

I second that. My dream camera – a FF mirrorless in a compact body with EVF aka nex-7!
Imagine having a full-frame version of the nex-7 in roughly the same size body!
What do you mean by “reasonably priced”?
The lowest priced full frame camera is Sony’s A850 which is about 2K – and some people claim Sony is taking a loss on this. Anyway unless someone figures out a way to greatly improve full frame sensor yields and reduce manufacturing costs I think it pretty unlikely that we will see any new full frame camera (mirrorless or otherwise) below 2.5K – and 3K+ seems much more likely.
Of course that is still way below the price of an M9 or D3x – so you might consider it reasonable.
I think “retro styling” cameras should be only made by camera manufacturers that trully HAD a, then-new, “retro slyled” camera, in example, voighlander with the bessa, leica with the m’s, minolta with the hi-matic, etc. I just don’t see samsung “remembering” an old model, they just don’t have one.
I think “direct input controls” would be more appropiate than “retro slyling”.
Samsung already made cameras like 30 years ago, that would be retro now. They just were not as internationally popular as they are now.
Samsung’s high-end NX models, it is best to start with three-layers sensors.
Because of Japan’s Fuji Photo Film, also plans to release early next year a similar sensor mirrorless camera,
Japan’s ability to develop sensors and other manufacturers also have developed in
In this context, the Samsung is not far behind, otherwise it will once again lose the opportunity.
