I received some information that Sigma is planning on launching their own line of cinema lenses. I expect the official announcement to be before the Photokina show in September. Stay tuned for more details.

  • Apparently they are launching an 85 ART soon, and then cinema versions of the ART series

Don’t forget the 24-70mm with OS and Art Line.

  • tyger11

    OMG, finally!

  • TinusVerdino

Samyang will retaliate by making their entire line up AF :p

If they could cut the price of their Xeen lenses in half, they’d sell like crazy. Or if Veydra would make lenses in mounts other than m43 and E mount, with coverage for full frame. AF is less important than simple mount/coverage compatibility at this stage of cine lenses, but certainly AF would be good. If I had to choose, though, I’d choose IS over AF. (not that that choice would ever exist in real life, though)

They will all come in SA mount.

    • tyger11

      Ha!

The mount question is a biggie, though. I would imagine available in both PL and EF mounts. I certainly hope for EF, that way I can use them with my SpeedBooster. E mount would not be out of the question these days as well, though.

Sigma can hardly hold spec from lens to lens with their DSLR lenses. How are they going to hold the more rigorous specs that serious cinema folks expect?

    • Mistral75

With much higher prices allowing for a much tighter quality control.

      • waterengineer

I can buy your point, a little bit.

    • sickheadache

I love when a watersomething person..who does not use a Sigma Art Line…speaks of nothing. Please Keep Up.

Hilarious post you create. You don’t even understand what I said much less make the false assumption about the so called “art line.” Interesting you don’t know me yet you know all these things about me. Please go nurse your sick headache while thinking about my original past and what it means. Then get back to me and apologize.

Waterengineer. Dude look at you Disqus profile, you just post negative comments on all posts. take a chill pill.

        Dude….

    • SH*T666

I can´t understand what you mean. Could you translate: “hold spec from lens to lens”? Puzzled.

  • El Aura

It seems we soon have more companies making cinema lens than still photography lenses. Covering m43 and up:

    Cine and still lenses:
Canon*, Fuji*, Leica*, Samyang/Rokinon/Bower, Schneider Kreuznach*, Sigma?, SLR Magic*, Sony*, Tokina, Zeiss*

    * original designs (ie, not just rehoused still lenses)

Cine lenses only: Angenieux, Cooke, LOCKCIRCLE, RED, Veydra

Still lenses only: IBE, Hasselblad (X1D), Lensbaby, Mitakon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Tamron, Venus, Voigtländer, Yongnuo

Ok, still lens makers are still in the majority.
