    Canon, we neeeeeeed 4K video!

    • fanboy fagz

no 4k. fail. so many I see using a7s2 and gh4/5 for wedding video.

      shame. they missed the opportunity.

      • silmasan

single sd slot too… let’s hope nikon doesn’t get inspired for the next d750…

      • Les

Shooting video with a still camera is so 2010…

It made sense when the 5D Mark II was the only game in town, but not any more. Canon, Sony, Black Magic, Panasonic, and others, offer dedicated large sensor video cameras that blow the doors off any SLR.

        • fanboy fagz

wierd that the majority in weddings ive seen, use a7s2 and gh4/5 with gimbals

  • raziel28

it is interesting to see that their flagship FF camera now has the worst sensor in the line up.
they have completely abandoned their strategy which was 1DX=1Ds and 1D in one.
    regards

    • Andrei

How has the 1DX2 the worst sensor? That’s one of the best sensors for low light.

      • raziel28

I mean in image quality strictly… 5D Mark IV has better overall score and this new camera will probably have the better or the same high iso.
        Regards

        • Andrei

Score? I’m always impressed when people judge a sensor by DXO score alone.

The 1DX is cleaner at high ISO, can shoot 16 frames per second at full resolution and 4K at 60fps.
Not sure if that would be possible with a 30MP sensor of the 5D4.

too bad the shutter and dial positions are backward

    • Chewbacca

I noticed that too. I’m not sure I understand the scroll wheel being on top instead of the front of the camera. Maybe You’d get used to it.

      • Ric of The LBC

All Canons are backwards this way. Like old HP calculators. Reverse polish notation.

That is what is was called, don’t shoot the messenger

  • Todd McKernan

Waited so long for such a disappointment. This pretty much seals the deal for my switch to Sony.

The 6d line has had the advantage of being smaller than the 5d line but they cut too many features out. A small full frame DSLR with the features of the 5d line is what I want even if it is more costly. Well actually Sony are doing this with their mirrorless line.

    • Spy Black

The original 6D had a better sensor than the Mk II and Mk III, which I always found amusing. Pretty crippled otherwise. This is a much improve beast, but it remains to be seen how it will be priced.

  • Scenic Spartan

I don’t know much about high end canon cameras, but to me this looks pretty much the same as the NIkon D750 besides for the vari-angle screen and 5 axis stabilization.

Edit: I didn’t notice the ISO goes higher, but my guess is that ISO 40,000 won’t be usable.

    • Spy Black

Only 1 card slot. Although dynamic range may be decent, I doubt it will match the D750. Hard to say how the AF will stack up. We don’t know yet if the HDMI port will put out uncompressed video like the D750. I’m probably forgetting some other features.

It strikes me somewhere between the D610 and the D750.

Let me get this straight, the video coming out of this thing will fill only 1/4 of my screen???? Until 2022, when the 6D III comes out, at which point Sonys / Panasonics / iPhones (!) will be shooting 8K video??? :):):):):)

My iPhone has been shooting 4K video for two years now!

Oh well, Canon now gives us two choices:
1/ stay on Canon and shoot 1080p video until 2022 (at that point 7 years behind the iPhone!!!) or
    2/ switch to Sony

This at least makes it easier.

If Canon was two years behind the iPhone, I could stomach that. Being 7 years behind is simply unacceptable.

    • Aditya Gupta

Fyi many smartphones have been shooting 4k way before iphone.

      • ashwins

…which makes his point even stronger…

  • Kris

    Real shame:
That articulated screen would be great for selfie video / vlogging
That dual pixel AF would be great for video
That touch to focus (finally!) would be great for video

But at 1080p in 2017-2022??? Seriously Canon?

  • abortabort

I wish someone would make an SD card adapter that took two Micro SDs and wrote simultaneously to both cards. It would in one moment get rid of many issues of whether manufacturers want to differentiate their cameras with only a single slot.

There used to be such a thing, but they were designed to make cards bigger and or faster, rather than for redundancy.

  • elf11

Is that a *mini* USB connector on the side? Does Canon have any idea what decade this is?

    • Todd McKernan

      Nope.

  • Tran T

Sold my 6D knowing this will come. Wish the max shutter was 1/8000 instead but I can live with 1/4000. Now just need info on the metering system. Hopefully its the same as the 5D IV or at least better than the 80D. If not then it’s time for me to switch to Nikon.

  • llocq

Specs are pathetic for 2017 release..

Bought the 5DmkIV at the end of 2016 and it kinda feels outdated already.
Image this in a year from now.

  • Les

Oh no, another solidly built, long-lasting, reasonably-priced SLR from Canon!
    No wonder people are complaining…

The only question I have is “interchangeable screen, or not?” The fixed screens in the recent 5D models are useless for manual focus, and judging the plane of focus is my main reason for getting a DSLR in the first place (as opposed to a rangefinder or EVF camera).

  • AHappyKoalaBear

No joystick, no cf/sd dual slot, no usb c, no 4K, wtf canon you might end up like Kodak in the end.
