February CIPA report: DSLR cameras production has better numbers than mirrorless


CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their February report. The downturn continues - the total number of shipped digital cameras is lower compared to the same month in previous years (orange: 2018, black: 2017, blue: 2016, click for larger view). The table with the actual numbers can be found here (click for larger view).

DSLR camera production (marked with red) saw a significant increase:

  • compared to previous month (number of units/yen value): 135.4% / 116.6% (2* column)
  • compared to same month last year (number of units/yen value): 104% / 103%  (3* column)

For the same period, the mirrorless numbers (marked with blue) were not so good:

  • compared to previous month (number of units/yen value):  105.4% / 89.5% (2* column)
  • compared to same month last year (number of units/yen value): 88.7% / 97.8%  (3* column)
