Rumor: the upcoming Panasonic S1/S1R full-frame mirrorless cameras to be priced at around $4,500 (more expensive than the Sony a9 and Nikon Z7)

The Japanese website SankeiBiz (a business news website run by Sankei - one of the largest media companies in Japan) recently reported that the prices of the upcoming Panasonic S1/S1R full-frame mirrorless cameras will be higher than the Sony a9 ($3,498) and Nikon Z7 ($3,396.95), or around $4,500:

  • Sony α9 / May 2017 / approximately 450,000 yen
  • Nikon Z 7/ September 2018 / about 410,000 yen
  • Canon EOS R / October 22018 / about 240,000 yen
  • Panasonic LUMIX S1/ Spring 2019 / 500,000 yen?

It seems that Panasonic will follow Olympus' strategy to release significantly overpriced cameras.
