The latest digital camera global market share: Canon: 47.9%, Sony: 22.1%, Nikon: 13.7%

Nikkei published their latest digital camera global market share for 2020. Here is the breakdown of the top five brands:

  1. Canon: 47.9% (+2.5%)
  2. Sony: 22.1% (+1.9%)
  3. Nikon: 13.7% (-4.9%)
  4. Fujifilm: 5.6 % (-0.3%)
  5. Panasonic 4.4% (-0.3%)

Canon, Sony, and Nikon together held a global market share of over 80% for digital cameras. The market as a whole has been shrinking due to the spread of smartphones. In 2020 specifically the market shrank by about 40% because of COVID-19: total shipments: 8.85 million units representing a drop of -40.3% (via Digicame-info).
