Additional information on the new Photoshop features announced in July 2023:

Photoshop’s latest update introduces intuitive improvements to accelerate core creative workflows and enable you to unlock new levels of productivity, precision, and control. You can now use the new Selection Brush Tool to make quick and intuitive selections, adjusting its opacity or hardness settings to create either opaque or soft-edged selections. This introduces more ease and flexibility when selecting, compositing, and applying Filters and Fills. Additionally, you can now apply adjustments to specific parts of your images in a single, intuitive step using the new Adjustment Brush Tool.

Explore how generative AI can serve as your creative companion to spark new ideas and streamline repetitive tasks with the new Text to Image feature, now out of beta. This feature allows you to generate dozens of ideas in minutes, jumpstart asset creation, and upload a Reference Image to control the style of your results. Create confidently when using generative AI features in Photoshop, knowing that they are powered by Adobe Firefly, which is trained on licensed content and designed to be safe for commercial use. Whether for easy ideation, or rapid asset generation -now almost anything is possible, for anyone, all available for commercial use.

Features:

  • Feature Name: Selection Brush Tool
  • With the new Selection Brush Tool, you can make quick selections by simply brushing over or circling around an area to select it.
    • Adjusting brush settings for opacity and hardness when selecting enables you to create selections that are opaque and have softer, feathered edges.
    • This introduces more ease and flexibility when selecting, compositing, and applying Filters and Fills.
    • Because brushes are a more intuitive selection tool, this feature is also a more intuitive entry point into Generative Fill workflows.
  • Feature Name: Adjustment Brush Tool
    • The Adjustment Brush Tool combines the traditional workflow of selecting, masking, and applying an adjustment into one single, intuitive step.
    • Select brush settings for opacity, hardness, size, and choose from dozens of brushes with various textures and effects, enabling you to make more custom and precise selections and adjustments. Then, paint targeted, nondestructive edits directly onto a specific part of your image and fine-tune the adjustment values to achieve a desired look. ·
    • If you are short on time or are working with a complex image, you can apply adjustments to entire objects and subjects efficiently by using the Select Object and Select Subject buttons, which have been brought into the Contextual Task Bar.

Feature Name: Bullets and Numbering Support for the Type Tool

  • Bullets and Numbering support for the Type Tool enables users to easily create bulleted and numbered lists with any text when using the Type Tool.

Improved Contextual Task Bar (Shapes and Transform)

  • You can now adjust popular Shapes settings or Transform and rotate objects directly from the Contextual Task Bar.

Text to Image powered by the new Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model (“Generate Image” in Ps UI)

  • Discover new ways to ideate and create assets with the Text to Image feature (‘Generate Image’ in Ps UI), powered by the new Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model.
  • Use generated assets to create custom composites without leaving Photoshop or combine multiple generated images on a canvas to ideate and refine ideas more efficiently.
  • Text to Image is powered by the new Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model, which unlocks impressive photographic results and is coming soon to other generative features in Photoshop.
  • The new Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model in Text to Image yields greatly improved photographic quality, precise controls to inform your outputs, and better prompt comprehension to understand complex descriptions. These capabilities are mutually reinforcing, enabling you to create with more intentionality, iterate with greater efficiency, and bring your vision to life with higher accuracy, details, and realism.
  • Control and guide the Text to Image feature to ideate or create assets you want using additional settings for Content Type (i.e., photo or art), Style Effects (e.g., Movements, Themes, Techniques, Effects, Materials, Concepts), and Reference Image (e.g., allows you to upload an image with a desired style aesthetic that will influence the generated result).
  • The Reference Image setting for Text to Image allows you to upload an image with a desired style aesthetic that will influence the generated result. This is different from the Reference Image feature improvement for Generative Fill in the Ps (beta) app o Create an entire high-quality asset that fills a canvas.
  • Add content to an image that completely contrasts with the existing image (e.g., adding a bright, colorful painting inside of a dark frame in a dark room) · Until now, all generative AI features in the Photoshop GA app were powered by Firefly Image 1 Model. This model can sometimes return results with poor photographic quality or improper renderings of people (e.g., faces, hands, eyes, and limbs) particularly when adding generated content to images. Because of this, users are not able to leverage generative AI features when creating high-quality content intended for commercial use or large formats. They instead must spend a lot of time on workarounds to produce a desired result.
