The Phoblographer interviewed Makoto Oishi (Product Planning Manager at Fujifilm) about the new Fujifilm GFX 50R medium format mirrorless camera ($4,499.95) - here is the recap from FujiAddict:
- Merger of the GFX and X system
- Started designing the GFX50R after the GFX50S launched
- Design is a merger of X and GFX along with film inspiration
- Fujifilm GFX 50S was really meant for professional photographers, but lots of people used it for things beyond what it was designed for.
- Medium format photographers wanted better performance than full frame
- Both the Fujifilm GFX50S and 50R AF at the same speed.
- GFX50R has faster EVF response than the GFX50S for now but might improve on GFX50S in a future firmware update.
- Originally were going to make a hybrid EVF, but abandoned it due to weight concerns, plus parallaxing would be worse.
- The back of the GFX50S was big because they were still struggling with the design and batteries.
- The Fujifilm GFX50R was designed 10 times with plastic models to get it right.
- The Fujifilm GFX50R is very well sealed for weather may be more than the GFX50S
- Command dial is better for changing ISO when doing street photography
