CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their June report and the downturn continues - the total number of shipped digital cameras is lower compared to the same month in previous years (orange: 2019, black: 2018, blue: 2017, click for larger view):
- DSLR’s down 37% in units, 46% in Yen
- Mirrorless down 14% in units, up 4% in Yen
- Point & shoot down 19% in units, 15% in Yen
- Lenses for smaller than 35mm down 31% in units, 29% in Yen
- Lenses for 35mm and larger down 11% in units, up 2% in Yen.
Based on the numbers for the first six months, if the second six months is the same, only 7.885 million ILC’s will be shipped. Last year was 10.76 million. Last year, 49% of the units were sold July through December. If that pattern holds only 7.31 million will be shipped. (thanks ZoetMB).
