A reader sent me a link to an article from the Spanish newspaper la Vanguardia discussing the future of Olympus. Here is a quote:
Although not a complete surprise, the sale of Olympus' photographic division has fallen like a jug of cold water . The statement released by the company (PDF) is riddled with reassuring messages. But the company that acquires the photographic division of Olympus has nothing to do with photography. Japan Industrial Partners is known for buying the Vaio brand of their computers from Sony. Since then, the Vaio brand PCs that have been launched have been far from the quality levels that Sony imposed on their computers. If we add to this the lack of experience in the photography sector of this company, there are reasons to have great doubts about the Pen or OM-D cameras that we see in the future. Japan Industrial Partners will not use the Olympus brand.
