Can Kodak survive?

Yesterday Kodak published a press release announcing “continued performance improvement in segment profitability for the third quarter of 2012“. The company was able to reduce their expenses by 24% ($63 million). The operating loss for Q3 was $37 million ($87 million improvement from the previous year). The company’s profit margin increased by 2%:

“Since our Chapter 11 filing in January, we have focused on the businesses that are core to our future strategic direction and exited businesses that were unprofitable,” said Antonio M. Perez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “The actions we are taking in response to economic and market conditions are working and will position us to emerge in 2013 as a growing, profitable, sustainable company.”

Can Kodak survive just with a successful restructuring/bankruptcy and without any major innovation/new products? In addition to the limited consumer products (mainly film, printers, memory cards and batteries), Kodak also has B2B products and services.

Zeiss lenses for mirrorless compact system cameras to start shipping in Spring

At the last day of PhotoPlus Expo in New York Zeiss showed mockups of their new lenses for mirrorless compact system cameras. Shipping is expected to start in Spring (previous reports indicated shipping in Summer) starting with the 2.8/12mm, 1.8/32mm and 2.8/50mm macro lenses for Sony NEX and Fujifilm X-Pro cameras. All new Zeiss mirrorless lenses will have autofocus.

Fujifilm released new firmware updates for the 18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4 and 60mm f/2.4 XF lenses. The new Fujifilm X-E1 mirrorless camera and 14mm f/2.8 XF lens are expected to start shipping in the US on November 9-10, 2012.

Yasuhara Madoka 180 Fisheye lens for Sony E-mount now available in the US (click on “more images” for some samples).

Sigma currently offers up to $200 instant rebate on certain lenses.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM zoom lens listed as discontinued.

Samsung announces pricing for their 12-24mm f/4-5.6 and 45mm f/1.8 NX lenses

At the 2012 PhotoPlus Expo Samsung announced again their 12-24mm f/4-5.6 and 45mm f/1.8 NX lenses that were initially introduced at Photokina. The only real news is the actual lens pricing:
