The latest Canon rumors: no more EOS R5 Mark II camera, a major R5 firmware update instead

It seems that instead of the previously rumored Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera, we will just get a major R5 firmware update later in 2023. The EOS R5 camera replacement is now rumored to be announced next year together with the EOS R1 flagship camera (expected ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics). Here is some additional information on the upcoming EOS R5 firmware update (the R5 is now $400 off):

Canon CP+ interview

Here is a recap of the Canon CP+ interview with Phototrend:

The camera market bottomed out and stabilized over the last 2-3 years.
The Canon EOS R3 is not the flagship mirrorless camera – the upcoming Canon EOS R1 will be the flagship camera.
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II was announced to incorporate AI-powered autofocus features.
Canon is no longer labeling its camera models based on sensor size: the Canon EOS R7 and ESO R10 are APS-C bodies, while the Canon EOS R8 is full-frame.
The RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM, RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM, and RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM are the best-selling Canon lenses.
Canon has still made a decision if they will open the RF mount even though we already saw the first third-party lens from Voigtlander (NOKTON 50mm f/1 Aspherical).
SLR cameras still represent 30% of all global sales.
