Expect more price increases on photo gear: the new US tariff on imports from Japan is now 15%

After the initial suggestion for a 25% tariff, the Trump administration reached a new deal today that includes a 15% tariff on all products coming from Japan. The effective US tariff rate on Japanese imports before the announcement was approximately 2%, according to World Bank data. Please note that tariffs are not calculated based on the final selling price in the US, but rather on the import invoice/declared value price. Here is a list of some of the cameras and lenses currently made in Japan:

Beware of scam: fake Hasselblad websites offer significant discounts on gear

It seems that Leica is not the only company recently targeted in elaborate online scams that involved multiple fake websites and significant social media advertising campaigns (all on Meta’s apps like Facebook and Instagram – both known for being a preferred social platform for scammers worldwide). I recently noticed the first fake Hasselblad website online – I will not link to the actual domain name, but you can see the URL in the screenshots below – I am sure there are more similar sites out there (click for larger view):

Here is a screenshot of the entire front page of the fake Hasselblad website:

Obviously, those deals are too good to be true. Use common sense and buy Hasselblad gear from one of our trusted sponsors:

Jared Polin rants about the RX1R III camera: “Sony, you are not Leica”

As I already reported online about the RX1R III being announced without any previous rumors or leaks and with a ridiculously high price for the camera and accessories:

Sony RX1R III camera accessories

The reason there were no leaks is becuase this time Sony did not let anyone know in advance of the existence of the RX1R III. Now they know how to stop the leaks if they want to, but I seriously doubt they will.

Jared Polin was the only influencer who actually had the guts to say something about all of this – “Sony, you are not Leica“:

Screen covers, dial locks, and leatherette accessories for Fujifilm cameras

In my previous report on PPP Cameras in the UK, I did not notice that they also sell screen cover accessories for several Fuji camera models (a similar product exists for Leica cameras and makes the LCD screen of a regular M10/M10-P look like the M10-D model that has no LCD screen):
