New server and HTTPS for PhotoRumors

In the past week I have been busy upgrading PhotoRumors to a new server at HostDuplex. The old server could no longer handle the increased traffic. You also probably already noticed that PhotoRumors is now a “secure” website (HTTPS) which is the industry’s standard. A lot of other changes were also introduced on the back end that should improve the overall user’s experience on the site. If you see any strange behavior, please add a comment to this post.

LeicaRumors and PentaxRumors are also now “secure” websites and NikonRumors will be transitioned over by the end of the week.

Sony RX1R III camera rumors: improved operations, 4k video, updated EVF

Some additional information on the rumored Sony RX1R III camera – some of the improvements will include:

  • Better operations (I hope this means a better menu system)

Sony will have a press event on April 23rd at the 2017 NAB show, but I am not sure if the new RX1R II will be announced then.

  • Adorama: in stock
  • Amazon: only 3 left in stock (more on the way).
  • B&H: out of stock (more on the Way)

Tha original RX1 was announced in September 2012, the RX1R II was introduced in October 2015.

Sony is rumored to announce a new RX1R III camera

I received a tip from a source that has been correct in the past that one of the not-yet-announced Sony cameras, the WW620081, will be a new RX1R III model that will replace the current RX1R II. This could also explain the recent $600 price drop on the RX1R II. Stay tuned while I am trying to gather some additional information.

Two years later: Samsung is done with digital cameras

Mirrorless NX prototypes from Samsung promotional video

Samsung is done with digital cameras – this report comes from a Samsung official who spoke on condition of anonymity:

“We no longer produce and sell digital cameras. But we will create a new camera product category to continue the business.”

In the past two years, there have been multiple reports that Samsung is done with their camera division, but there was never an official confirmation from the company.

In case someone is still wondering: no, Nikon did not buy Samsung’s camera division.
