Panasonic GX7 announcement in few hours, new Leica MFT lens on the way

The Panasonic GX7 MFT camera will be announced in few hours. Few last moment GX7 updates from Digicame-info in addition to the previously leaked specs:

  • No AA filter on the sensor
  • Sensor designed by Panasonic with improve high sensitivity and resolution, new two-dimensional noise reduction (25% better high ISO performance and 10% better resolution performance compared with the GX1)
  • The camera will start shipping in Japan on September 12
  • The price will be around 1000 EUR ($1000 in the US)
  • Very fast communication between body and lens: 240 B/s
  • “Noiseless” shooting mode: takes pictures without the use of the mechanical shutter
  • Battery capacity: 320 shots
  • Weight: 402g
  • The GX will be available in two different colors: silver and black

Digicame-info reported also that a new Panasonic/Leica branded Micro Four Thirds lens is also coming soon but the exact date is not yet confirmed.

Sigma to announce mount conversion services on Thursday

Few days ago PhotoRumors broke the news about a new upcoming announcement from Sigma. As some of the commenters already mentioned, on Thursday Sigma will announce a new mount conversion service. This will be a free service from Sigma where you will be able to send your Sigma lens and convert to any of the available mounts.

Update: the mount replacement service might be free, but you will still have to pay for the shipping and handling to Japan.

Sigma rumored to announce a new 24-70mm f/2 OS HSM full frame lens next year

Sigma is rumored to announce a new 24-70mm f/2 OS HSM lens. The lens is expected to be released next year during the 2014 Photokina show in Germany. The new lens will be priced below the Canon’s 24-70 f/2.8 ($2,299).

The Kodak branded S1 Micro Four Thirds compact system camera is delayed

Amateurphotographer reports that the Kodak branded S1 Micro Four Thirds compact system camera produced by JK Imaging will be delayed. The official release was scheduled for Q3 of 2013.

Sigma Poland is counting down to a “revolution” in 4 days

Sigma Poland has published a new website called Sigma Foto Revolution (rewolucja.sigma-foto.pl) that has a running countdown and a slogan that translates to “Destroy the system with Sigma, release is coming” or something like “Overthrow the system with Sigma, there is liberation“. The use of the word “system” is very interesting. On several occasions in the past, Sigma has officially said that they will not pursue a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (see this and this posts).
