Panasonic will resume the development of sensors capable of recording 8k video and wants to bring this technologies to consumer level cameras. The company halted their 8k development back in 2011, but now they are investing over $80 million in the next generation 8k image sensor that should be ready by 2018 (previous plans were for 2020).
The Japanese website nikkan.co.jp reports that Panasonic will have cameras with 8k video recording capabilities by 2020.
