Canon filed a patent in Japan for a new 50mm f/1.8 lens with image stabilization (IS):

  • Lens design: 8 elements in 7 groups
  • The image stabilization unit is located between the aperture and the front lens group

Canon already has several prime lenses with IS: 24mm f/2.8, 28mm f/2.8 and 35mm f/2.

Another recent Canon patent describes a 6-30mm f/2-3.5 lens designed for compact cameras with 1/1.7" sensor:
