That mirror mechanism video is fascinating, but visually proves that it adds lots of cost and complexity to system, so needs to be removed in next generation of cameras if the camera maker intends to survive.

How much cost does it really add? If DSLR makers can make cameras cheaper than mirrorless options of the same sensor size how much can that mirror assembly and prism really be costing them? Wake me up when mirrorless cameras can focus reliably on -1 to -2ev of light like my pentax cameras can.

They can’t make them cheaper. They are just selling them with lower profit margin.

All a camera maker needs to survive is a public that buys their stuff. That public will be there as long as the SLR offers superior results.

$599 for a Singlet-Doublet-Singlet 56mm lens? You got to be kidding.

The Helios goes for cheap. 🙂

    • but it’s “limited edition” 🙂

No doubt, it got to be “limited”.

      Exactly what I thought.

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 has two more elements and auto focus for 1/5th the price.
