The Sony RX1R II camera now costs $600 more, all 42MP Sony cameras are out of stock

The Sony RX1R II camera recently got a big $600 price increase: now listed for $3,898 and is out of stock almost everywhere (same price at Adorama and Amazon). The RX1R II was $3,299 when first announced back in October last year. The new pricing is now pretty much in Leica territory (the Leica Q is $4,250).

Interestingly enough, the Sony a7R II camera that uses the same 42MP sensor is also out of stock everywhere and the next shipment is expected by some retailers in 1-2 months. After the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, Sony issued a delay notice for several camera models, but the RX1R II and a7R II were not on that list. Maybe they have specific issues with their latest 42MP sensor. This also means that we should not expect third party manufacturers (Nikon for example) to soon release cameras with that 42MP sensor.
