Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 lens for Sony E-mount officially announced

Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 full frame lens for Sony E-mount cameras (reported here yesterday) is now officially announced. The US price is $1,399. The Zeiss Loxia line of full frame lenses for Sony E-mount now consists of 4 different focal lengths (21mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm):

    f2.4 for 1400$? now sony can make PR slides with A7R II and this lens vs dlsr and 85mm f1.4 and tell “how compact their mirrorless system really are and its price are also in check”

    I don’t get these slow primes. Why would you ever use one? We have wonderful f2.8 zooms that are sharp as hell, and much more versatile. The main reason to own primes these days is their wide aperture.

      This is for people who want a Loxia specifically. There is no zoom for this unless you go for a ‘Lightweight Zoom’ like this:

      Notice how the Loxia is placed under Cinematography as well as Photography. It’s a bit of a weird crossover, but has a place.
