So this is the Nikon D810/Canon 5DMKIII replacement everyone was waiting for! Given how good the on-chip PD is, Sony should provide a way of using this camera with its translucent mirror off to re-gain the 1/3 EV lost to the PD sensor when it’s not needed, like when shooting videos.

      Just take the mirror out.

Oh, is that simple? I didn’t know, haven’t ever used an SLT before.

Yeah they pop right out for cleaning the sensor.

I wouldn’t take them out. You will void your warranty, and you can miscalibrate AF if you put them back later misaligned. There is also no guarantee PDAF AF will work good with A mount lenses. It’s not worth it. Just buy A7RII if you are so against the mirror.

Have you used a SLT camera yet ? The loss is negligible.

    • The translucent mirror on these cameras can be unlatched causing it to swing upward to a 90 degree angle. If it was an option in firmware the camera could function and focus like a A7MII. This would be interesting but likely not very practical.

To me, this is closer to the D5 and D810 combined. Impressive frame rates (close to D5) at full 42mp resolution (higher than even the D810) with a very robust buffer. Sony did not hold back at all on this body.

Very impressive specs but while this would be a natural purchase for A-mount owners (a bargain even as the A7R II is priced at about the same), I do wonder how many Sony E-mount camera owners will order one.

  • Nice for the A-mount shooters.
    But definitely not for me…
I never really liked the A-mount bodies either. They just feel weird in the hands.

When Matt Granger talked about the new Sony A99ll (not ii) he said it Shrunk in size…To the size of the Sony A77ll (not ii) meaning that the old Battery Grip of the A99, will not fit the new A99ll. But the Sony A77ll Battery Grip will fit onto it now. How bout them Apples.

I need to know, if A99 II sync high speed flash as 1000s for example, the old A99 only sync max 200 s
