the 70-200 G2 will be a success if they can price it right vs the nikon 70-200E at $2800. priced at $1400 half price will be a smart move. their current vc lens is priced at $1200 which is half the VR2 at $2400

it will be a success if they make good and not just OK

The current vc is very good. Im sure they made the g2 incrementally better. Price will determine its real success not performance

There’s been quite an acceleration of lens evolution in the past few years. Lenses you’d think would be around for a while are updated within 2 or 3 years after their release. All good for the consumer of course, assuming the new lenses are within budget. Even if not the older lenses become cheaper and more affordable.

I wonder what made this happen, did a patent expire?

it’s going to be 1600-1800..or more because of FL pricing.

Canonrumors had the suggested retail price listed at 175000 yen, which translates to about 1550 usd. Should be at 1500 new. Hopefully it would bring the old one down to the rebate price of 1200-1300 new.

If it’s 1600ish it will indeed sell very well..optics have to be there, minimal focus breathing
