Confirmed: Bowens is going out of business

An update on my post from last week - it is now official: the lighting manufacturer Bowens is going out of business. In a statement today the parent company Aurelius Group confirmed the news:

Aurelius said the decision was due to the “the far-reaching changes affecting its market, including new, considerably less expensive products by Chinese manufacturers, product innovations by competitors, and the changed buying behavior of professional photographers, who are now only willing to invest in new equipment if the investment guarantees additional income.” (via PDN)

Bowens products are sold at Adorama and B&H.

I remember using Bowens as a student at art college, as a 25+ year professional, I do not use Bowens (Broncolor), Hmmmmmm?

Gosh! I’m all Bowens for the last 4 years…thought they could be around forever, but they took too long to react to the competition and the upgrades in technology

Whap a bummer. I use Bowens with great relayability for thirteen years now, in the studio and on location. Will keep using them no matter what.

When their time comes though, I’ll sattle for something fresh with more oomph though.

Wow, a London giant down. Other reasons might be.. part of the decline of the NY-London fashion/reportage industry? ISO doesn’t need flash in the same way no more?
