Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III with 24mp APS-C sensor and other Canon rumors

The first set of rumored Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III specifications point to a compact camera with an APS-C sensor inside:

  • 24mp APS-C Sensor (the PowerShot G1 X Mark II had the 1.5″ sensor)
  • Dual Pixel AF
  • DIGIC 7
  • 24-120mm lens (35mm equivalent)

An APS-C 24-120mm lens will be probably too big for a compact camera like the G1 X, but we have to wait and see how Canon will implement that.

A new patent was recently posted online for a new 15-40mm f/2.0-4.0 lens for APS-C sensor.

In addition to the four new lenses and the EOS M100 mirrorless camera, Canon is not expected to make any other major announcements this year. Here is what's rumored for 2018:

  • Entry level Rebel camera
  • Prosumer APS-C DSLR camera
  • First 4K APS-C camera
  • Professional EOS-1 camera
  • Replacement for the EOS 5DS (especially after the Nikon D810 announcement)
