Western Digital My Passport Wireless SSD review

The new Western Digital My Passport Wireless SSD has an integrated SD card reader and offers one-touch SD memory card backup/copy in addition to several other features:

You can insert an SD memory card and back it up instantly when you are shooting out in the filed (the hard drive has a built-in battery that can last up to 10 hours of continuous use).

If you use other memory card formats, you can attach an external memory card reader to the drive and still backup your pictures. This is why you see two USB connections on the device - one for charging and one for external memory card readers.

You can charge mobile devices (basically using the drive as an external battery).

The drive comes with a silicone sleeve that is supposed to protect the drive from drops up to 1m (even when the drive is in operation).

Here is how the size of the Western Digital My Passport Wireless SSD compares to LaCie and G-Technology external portable hard drives - it's small enough to fit in your camera bag.

The drive has Wi-Fi and you can connect to it to see your photos as well as stream 4k video.

You can also create 802.11ac 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi connections from the drive itself.

You can use it as a regular external hard drive attached to a computer with the provided USB cable.
