Olympus is working on long telephoto lenses, major announcement expected in May

During Photokina, Camerajabber interviewed Shigemi Sugimoto from Olympus. Here is the recap from 43addict:

  • Still 100% behind m43
  • The size and weight of m43 is easily distinguishable for Full Frame
  • Full frame vs m43 makes the whole size advantage an easier sell
  • Everyone is making a big deal about mount size, well m43’s mount is twice the size needed for the sensor
  • Olympus is working on long telephoto lenses
  • Olympus wants to further reduce the need for tripods
  • Using current technology the cameras and lenses would have to get bigger for better IS, but Olympus believes they will surpass the limitations
  • They will have a major announcement for Photokina 2019 in May next year.
