The Internet is flooded with fake pictures and made-up specifications of the upcoming Sony APS-C camera. The model names are also all over the place (a6700, a7000, a5500 etc). This clickbait practice has been going for a few years now and has become the only way to drive traffic for certain websites. A new Sony APS-C camera has been "rumored" since 2016 and the announcement is always "soon":
The fact is that good Sony leaks are hard to get and are almost non-existent (with a few small exceptions). Sony is by far the most secretive camera company today (it used to be Nikon). Even the reliable Japanese sites have a hard time getting good Sony leaks.
Some of the Sony fakes are rather comical, but are still being reported as legit leaks by some blogs:
Here is what we have so far for the upcoming Sony APS-C camera:
- Sony has a scheduled CES press event on January 7th
- A new Sony camera is registered in Asia under the code name WW715296
- Rumored Sony APS-C mirrorless camera specifications from SonyAddict
- Sony will announce a new APS-C based mirrorless camera by the CP+ show that will take place in Japan at the end of February (February 28th - March 3th)
- Sony promised also more APS-C mirrorless lenses
