Tokina Opera 16-28mm f/2.8 FF full-frame DSLR lens for Nikon F and Canon EF mounts to be announced on February 22nd


Tokina will officially announce a new Opera 16-28mm f/2.8 FF full-frame DSLR lens for Nikon F and Canon EF mounts on February 22nd. This lens was initially displayed at the 2018 Photokina show.

This will be the second Opera DSLR lens for Tokina after the 50mm f/1.4 FF.

Update #1 - The expected release date is March 15, 2019. The Japanese price is ¥94,500 including tax.

Update #2 - some additional info from a Japanese store listing (Google translation):

  • Newly developed large-diameter 56mm P - MO Aspheric lens
  • Improvement in surface accuracy reduces ghosts and flares
  • Equipped with SDM (Silent Drive Module)
  • The DC motor is sealed for quiet operation
  • The GMR sensor (high precision magnetic sensor) is mounted in the immediate vicinity of the drive section
  • It realizes quick AF speed by focus control with higher resolution and higher detection accuracy
  • "One-touch focus clutch" with manual focus feeling
