CIPA camera production data for January


CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their latest camera production data for January 2022 (orange: 2022, black: 2021, blue: 2020):

January 2022 CIPA numbers

Mirrorless unit share at 56.1% is higher than January 2021 (53.8%) but lower than the full-year 2021 unit share of 59%. Mirrorless shipped value share is higher at 79.9% compared to 72.2% last January and 78% full-year 2021.

CIPA has predicted 5.29 million DSLR and Mirrorless bodies for 2022. We’re predicting 4.8 to 5.143 million compared to:

  • 2021: 5.348 million
  • 2020: 5.308 million
  • 2019: 8.462 million
  • 2018: 10.76 million
  • 2017: 11.68 million

The ratio of lenses shipped to bodies shipped is 1.79 for YTD 2022. It was 1.81 for YTD 2021.
