Ricoh announced that it is developing an entirely new concept for Pentax DSLR K-mount cameras – here is a recap of the official announcement:

- The company says it is reexamining “the value of taking photographs” and wants products that let more people enjoy the process of photography, not just the result.
- A new series of digital SLR cameras is in development, based on an entirely new concept, while still using the K-mount legacy built over more than 50 years.
- These products will take time; Ricoh will share progress updates when information is ready.
- Production of the current K-series digital SLRs will be discontinued as part of the transition.
- Ricoh says it will keep pursuing an SLR-specific shooting style and wants cameras that work for both existing enthusiasts and people just starting out.
- Positioning: cameras should be more than image-capture tools – they should enrich the experience of photographing.
