The CIPA report for August is out: everything is down except mirrorless shipped value (up 2%)


CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) released their August numbers - the downturn continues similar to last month and the month before in terms of year over year percentages, except that mirrorless shipped value is up another 2%. (orange: 2019, black: 2018, blue: 2017, click for larger view):

  • DSLR Units  -36%
  • DSLR Shipped Value -44%
  • Mirrorless Units -13%
  • Mirrorless Shipped Value +6%
  • Compact Units -20%
  • Compact Shipped Value -15%
  • Lenses for smaller than 35mm Units -31%
  • Lenses for smaller than 35mm Shipped Value -29%
  • Lenses for 35mm and larger Units -14%
  • Lenses for 35mm and larger Shipped Value -2%
  • Mirrorless unit share (of Mirrorless + DSLR) 43.9%
  • Mirrorless Shipped Value share 59.1%
