Few more leaked images of the upcoming Olympus PEN E-P5 camera – the new VF-4 EVF appears to be larger than the current VF-3 model:
Last month I reported that the next Olympus PEN camera will look very much like the classic PEN F film model and the latest leaked E-P5 image confirms that rumor. The Olympus E-P5 will have a 16MP sensor (same as in the OM-D E-M5 model) and built-in Wi-Fi. The official announcement will at the beginning of May.
Few quick updates on the upcoming new cameras and lenses from Olympus and Panasonic:
According to digicame-info Olympus will soon announce two new mirrorless cameras: E-P5 and E-PL6. The E-P5 body only will be priced at ¥99,800 (around $1000), the E-PL6 body will cost ¥69,800 (around $700). No other specifications are available at that point.
The Sony NEX-7n mirrorless camera is rumored to be announced in May with a new 3.8 million dot EVF that will have two OLED layers of 1.9 million dots each. Sony filed a patent 2013-54164 for 16-135mm f/3.5-5.6 and 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 APS-C lenses. Sony also patented (2013-50630) a half mirror that will not “black out” during exposure. Canon filed a patent (2013-57802) for a 50mm f/1.4 lens. The patent contains also calculations for a 50mm f/1.2 lens.
Canon filed more patents (2013-47780 and 2013-37339) for a 14mm f/2.8 lens (see previous patent here). Tamron’s patent 2013-44964 is for a 10-18mm f/4 lens for APS-C cameras. Two different version were described – with and without image stabilization.
I received some information that the next Olympus PEN camera will have a new design and will look more like the old PEN F film camera. In addition, the new camera is rumored to have a viewfinder (not sure if it will be optical or electronic). I have no other details for now.
