More details on the upcoming Panasonic ZS-7, TS2 cameras

The previously rumored camera model will be called Panasonic ZS-7 (not sure if they will use the same model name in the US). Some more detailed specs emerged today (Google translated – not sure how accurate this translation is):

  • HD video with 720p 30fps
  • Built-in stereo microphone
  • 12x optical enabled zoom
  • New IS system in camera
  • New, dedicated movie mode button
  • New implementation of the exposure button for easier manual settings
  • Built-in GPS: each photo will be tagged with the geo-location and time stamp and those parameters will be searchable
  • SDXC cards compatible
  • HDMI and USB ports
  • New digital zoom solution – it will guarantee high resolution images, without any loss of quality even when using digital zoom

The second expected camera will be the Panasonic TS2 (replacement of the Panasonic TS1). Again, the translation is not easy to understand, but it seems that this camera can survive very deep waters, free fall from substantial height and operate under some extreme weather conditions.

No word on the G model yet.

Expected release: end of January, beginning of February 2010.

New Panasonic cameras to be announced for PMA

Panasonic will introduced at least two new cameras for PMA. One of them will be a new G model (hinted already last week) and the second one could be the long awaited LX4 (replacement of the very popular Panasonic LX3). There were a lot of previous Panasonic LX4 rumors, but my sources from Asia can only confirm that at least one more, high end, compact camera will be announced with new Lumix G model, but at that point it is not confirmed that it will be the LX4:

I do however have some more details about this new, high end compact Panasonic camera:

  • Full manual control
  • New and improved image stabilization system
  • No RAW mode (? – LX3 did have RAW mode, another reason why this may not be a LX3 replacement). Panasonic may keep the RAW mode only for their GF line.
  • GPS
  • 720p HD video
  • Stereo microphones
  • New digital zoom function: Panasonic will unveil also a new technology that will be related to digital zoom and will make it much more useful

The announcement, based on previous leaks, is expected at the end of January or beginning of February, 2010.

Samsung NX10 updates

Samsung NX10 release will be delayed till March, 2010 (source):

“Samsung UK spokesman last night said that bosses at the Korean firm were not happy with the image quality and needed more time to address this issue before launch.”

Same article has few other interesting bits of information: NX10 is only the first model and a higher specs version is expected in the future. Touch screen is a possibility.

The Korean Times confirms that Samsung will not be buying Pentax for now. At the same time Samsung’s CEO hints that they “will find new partners able to diversify possible channels for lenses” and also that “upcoming hybrid digital cameras, possibly in the second half of this year, will be equipped with SDI’s own lens and image sensors”.

Ricoh CX3

In the next 2-3 weeks Ricoh is expected to announce their new CX3 model.

The Ricox CX3 camera will be the replacement of the Ricoh CX2 and it will add HD video capabilities. The price of the CX3 is expected to be around 350€.

This is a picture of the current Ricoh CX2 mode – the new model should look very similar:

Samsung’s latest cameras can see through fog

I would not even mention the latest release of Samsung point and shoot cameras here, but one line caught my eye on AmateurPhotographer website: “Samsung invents cameras to cut through fog”:

The ST60 and ST70 (pictured) also feature digital effects such as DeFog Clear/Fog Lifting which, the firm claims, ‘cuts through the haze to take clear photos’.

That’s right, Samsung found a way to bring something new in this otherwise boring batch of compact cameras (they have different model names in the US: TL105 and TL110).

FYI, Samsung’s CEO is aiming for a 15% compact cameras market share (source).
