Nikon officially announced the development of a new, next-generation full-frame mirrorless camera that will be “the result of Nikon’s advanced optical and manufacturing capabilities gained through over a century of heritage” and “will work with the NIKKOR F mount lenses“. Nikon specifically confirmed that it will continue to develop DSLR cameras and lenses in addition to the new mirrorless camera.

BCN Ranking published their digital camera ranking for the first half of 2018:
Olympus was the #1 mirrorless camera maker in 2017 with 27.7%, but in 2018 Canon took the lead (no surprise here). The actual surprise is that in the first half of 2018, Nikon got at the #1 spot in the fixed lens camera segment with a market share of 31% (Canon is now at the #2 spot). Nikon doesn’t have any interesting Coolpix offering (except the P900), while Canon continues to produce high-end compact cameras.
