Pentax K-5 now also discontinued in the US

After the first report from Japan back in January, the Pentax K-5 DSLR is now also discontinued in the US according to this B&H listing (the body only version is still available). Expect the replacement to be announced at Photokina next month.

  • What’s a Pentax?

    PENTAX = JUNK

    • What’s a Canon?

      So are your posts.

BTW how’s that terrible 5D AF working for you?

    • Arn

I leave Nikon for Pentax 2 years ago, surely the best move i’ve made.
      Those cameras are just fantastic.

    • Incessant Troll

bravo! you will be getting an extra bonus in your paycheck from the pentax competitor that employs you

      • Arn

Yeah, of course, Pentax they give me thousands of $ to post positive comments about their stuff.
Of course, it’s just impossible to jump from Nikon to Pentax. No way i had constant focus problemes with my D7000, and i’m so in love with salmon colored images.
Okay ? Now you can go back playing soccer on a highway.

I think he was replying to What’s A Pentax, one of the biggest paid trolls on this site.

        • calibrator

“i’m so in love with salmon colored images.”

          Can you elaborate on that?
I’m one of the many D7000 owners who probably hear that the very first time.

Come on – I’ve been a Nikon user since 1970 and I think the Pentax K5 is a great camera. Wish Nikon would make some good wide angle prime lenses for their DX cameras.

  • BP2012

It’s obvious that replacement is coming for k-5. Is there any chance for weather sealed Pentax FX camera until the end of year?

    @What’s a Pentax?
Hey worm, crawl back to your own asshole.

    • Alex

If (when?) they’ll make a FX, it will certainly be weather sealed; however, I’d say Photokina is too early for such a camera.

      • What a pity

Still too early for a 135 camera? The question is, why haven’t we got one already, why didn’t we get one in 2005. Let’s hope Ricoh can blow new life in this dead horse.
BP2012: the “what’s a pentax” guy is displeasing but you are a right chicken, insulting from where nobody can come and slap you in the head. Bet you are a big arse licker in real life.

        • BP2012

Sorry but I think if he can’t be banned because of spamming that’s the only way to react because he won’t simply go away. The guy is fucking lunatic. On every Pentax news/rumor (hundreds of them) he leaves his “comments”:
          Pentax is a junk.
Pentax doesn’t make good quality equipment.
          Pentax quality control doesn’t exists.
Pentax does not make quality products.
It’s a shame about the quality control at Pentax.
          Pentax: Hopeless Since 1975!
Pentax: Premium prices for poor quality.
Gotta love that Pentax quality control!

(repeating the same statement again and again)

That is a spam and should be treated like that (banned or filtered by admin).

        • Alex

Too early, because Hoya wasn’t ready to invest $$$$$ in Pentax – they concentrated on things that would improve margins, fast. Real work (i.e. not internal prototypes, but going towards a production model) probably had to start this year.
Yes, I believe the 645D was a sure bet, and a FF would require more effort from their part.

          • Pentaxist

Pentax is with Ricoh now. Forget Hoya!

          • Alex

I was using past tense when talking about Hoya ;) Indeed, Pentax Ricoh is different, more aggressive.
But nothing can be done overnight; time and hard work is required. Thus, I believe this year (i.e. Photokina) is too early for their most serious projects.

In a world filled with Nikon and Canon it is refreshing to occasionally remember that this brand exists. Occasionally I pick one up and then wonder why I’m not using one. They are mostly great cameras, although it is getting harder to find to find any glass for them. If anything kills the brand it will be the availability of the glass. I thought that a merger with Tokina or Tamron would help, but the other makers would cut off buying from them and they would have to start withholding some of their best designs from the aftermarket in order to prop up the brand. Maybe a merger with cosina would be better, but that is unlikely.
I think the camera is the choice for someone who wants professional quality but is not craving the absolute highest resolution or the narrowest depth of field. The cameras work flawlessly and without effort, imparting the most natural feel imaginable on the images they produce. I really like the seamless way they work with manual focus lenses. They should not be overlooked.

    • Alex

You will be glad to find out Pentax is now doing their best at moving forward, and gain the lost momentum.
There’s no need for a merger, and they’re (no longer) endangered.
