So, who is this for? I understand you have to price it higher than the NX20 but I don’t see any enthusiasts buying this at $1600.

  • MW

Tactile buttons and controls are (were?) the best thing about any non-pocketable camera. I have a feeling this thing would drive me bonkers.

Samsung is creating a brand new marketing!

Entry-level camera with PRO price tag!

I’m not saying that this is not a capable camera without a proper review 0 even though it looks like the same old Samsung sensor – but the lack of physical buttons, the touch screen/smartphone interface shouts entry-level user experience while the price tag is PRO-like.

What’s up with Samsung? They boldly said that would take over the mirrorless market and now this? That seems like a serious delusional problem.

I rather use my ios iphone 5 or android galaxy S4. OH WAIT! maybe my new lumnia 41MP. is this a JOKE? august fools day? please tell me yes.
waste of money and production cost. SAMSUNG should have made a price tag with something photographers can use. This model just make photographers stay home and do selfies. OH HAI!

  • FDF

Good luck selling any at that price.

  • Dante D’Money

The sad thing here is this is a classic example of senior management being about 2 years….or 2 centuries behind the curve. I agree a total waste of time and investment. For both Samsung and Consumers of any skill level. The lenses are also slow to dam slow…who needs any lens that is F5.6 or higher. Samsung seems to think it’s core customer is clueless.

    August 30 is Korean April Fool’s Day…

  • SoftonDemand

If i can store contacts and check my email and messages on this camera does this mean i can make phone calls on it?

  • Paddy

I ‘m trying imagine how cool you’ll look trying to hold this cludge, up to your ear. And I think$1600.00 really hits the sweet spot for the awesome JPEG’s it’ll produce too!!! lol (A total management wank), “but we’re certain the “kids” are just going to lap it up.” Uh-huh,…(Sound of Gong Show bell, in background)

  • johnny

$1600 for this camera is ridiculous, just like SONY RX1. If Samsung put a FF sensor in it, it will sell like hot cakes.

    • SoftonDemand

Dont hate on the RX1 if you don’t have one. I got the RX1R and its pretty good and user friendly

    • MJr

No, the RX1 has many valid reasons for its price.

  • mooh

Does it even have a headphone jack?

  • Nishi Drew

Well, typical asia production, they don’t consider the protruding noses of westerners and Europeans which’ll smudge the screen, and most likely cause unwanted touch screen commands whenever one looks through that VF. So many people already have a smartphone and I can’t imagine anyone spending that much more for a second one that looks like a camera… and for that price you can get a new FF dslr now, 6D or D600, far more capable cameras

  • MoJafri

samsung is going crazy. absolute nonsense!!!

  • camaman

Oh great! Right where the thumb rest should be is the lovely Android back button. Taking you back to homescreen and turning off the camera app right when you least expect it!:-)

I love this feature when browsing on my phone. I am sure I will love it more when taking videos and photos.

  • Sebastian

Ok, so let’s take it for granted that this won’t sell in the Western world, and will be discounted to less than half the introductory price within a year. But an interesting question is, what WERE these execs thinking when they set the price? I mean, IS this gonna sell ANYWHERE? Is it just that no company has any clue on how to make mobil devices and cameras converge, and they’re just stabbing in the dark? What’s going on here?

  • sly

Hard to believe many enthusiasts will buy this for 1600$. Well we know it will drop down quickly. The audience is very limited, “rich” (rich enough) amateurs or some kind of pro that do something special in a event : like your picture available on the web or facebook immediately yahooo ! Well you can actually do that with many other cameras and a cell phone. Will see how low this camera will go down

  • TheInconvenientRuth

Sooo…. if I set the ringtone on this to vibrate but have IS active on the lens, will they cancel each other out? 😀

  • Theeky

At least now you can talk to the camera!
The marketing line for this should be: Take photos without ever click a button!

  • canikon owner

This is amazing! I can watch youtube on this camera!

  • Backupoh

I get it. The execs are very smart and they realized this camera is useless, it will not sell and will be a money looser no matter what. What they are selling are the 10 prototypes they made. At this price they may not even sell all 10…

  • Stuart E. McConaghy

Does it run Angry Birds, though? That’s a killer feature to have on any camera…

  • Funduro

I would say something negative about this camera , but there’s an image of the back that speaks for me. Samsung’s version of the failed experiment called Surface RT.

  • bob2

Samsung and Sigma must be using the same strategist to set pricing.

  • One More Thought

This price is way too high. Samsung is making a huge mistake with this price point. As others have pointed out there seems to have been very little thought as to whom this camera is for.

It’s priced for pro’s and enthusiasts, but pro’s and enthusiasts will not want this camera loaded with gimmicky. The more novice photographer, who may be impressed by Android on a camera, will see the price as way too high.

This camera is an epic fail.

  • Marco Santa Cruz

i’m sorry i’d love to continue the shoot, but i got a virus on my camera!…

  • Foot of our stairs

I have a Samsung Android phone, I and using the camera function is a bit of a faff as is the rest of the functionality to be frank. I cant say that am sold on this idea at all
